Admissions Requirements
Admission is for Fall semester only. All required material must be postmarked and the application package must be complete by the deadline. The deadline for all applicants for Fall 10 is April 1, 2010.
All applications to the Professional Master of Science (PSM) in Biotechnology Program are processed through the Bouvé College of Health Sciences Graduate Admissions Office regardless of the concentration (track) the applicant wishes to pursue and all pieces of the application package, such as transcripts, must be submitted to that office.Admission Requirements:
- Application and personal goal statement (online submission only)
- Offical transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate study (Northeastern transcripts must be requested by the applicant). An undergraduate GPA of 3.00 (B) or better is required.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) taken within the last five years (send score reports to Bouvé College, code 3629); a minimum total score of 1100 or minimum quantitative score of 650 is required; a GRE Subject Test is optional.
- TOEFL Examination for international applicants (send score reports to Bouvé College, code 3629)
- Three letters of recommendation
Applicants to the PSM in Biotechnology Program must have:
- A baccalaureate (bachelor's) degree in a biological science, a chemical science, or engineering with an emphasis on biological science, or related discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Pre-requisites for the molecular biotechnology or pharmaceutical biotechnology tracks are undergraduate courses in each of the following: organic chemistry (two semesters), genetics or physiology (one semester), biochemistry (one semester) plus college level calculus (two semesters).
- Pre-requisites for the engineering biotechnology track are undergraduate courses in each of the following: biology (one semester), chemistry (one semester), organic chemistry (one semester), differential equations (one semester), chemical engineering calculations or material and energy balances (one semester), and chemical engineering transport processes (one semester).

International applicants must
- demonstrate proficiency in writing and speaking English with a minimal TOEFL score of 100 for the Internet-based, 250 for computer-based, and 600 for paper-based format. International students residing in countries where English is not a first language are required to take the TOEFL. International applicants residing in countries where English is a first language are required to take the TOEFL if their native language is not English. The TOEFL requirement is waived for international applicants who hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from a US institution.
